A Message from Our Founder
Since I launched my non-profit Destiny’s Foundation many people have asked me to share my motivation for starting. The reality is that there is no singular answer but there are many. In 2020, and currently as a global society we face a pandemic that has left the US with a staggering $3.5 trillion in lost economic output due to the elimination and reduction of employment opportunities both for entrepreneurs and for those across corporate industries.
With this reality, I am well aware of the pervasive impact on Black communities and those identifying as indigenous, or people of color. Of this population, 45% are either directly or indirectly affected are categorized as those who will or have lost their jobs, business, or if they have managed to keep their job they are frontline workers, and their kids are left at home to teach themselves through distance learning. If they have the internet, a computer, or a tablet to conduct their schooling.
These communities especially the Black community are 2x more likely to die when infected and more than ever we have an opportunity to change our community with the tools and resources we are so fortunate to have.
This work has also, been fueled by my engagement as the Vice President of Operations for Wonder of Women International which is an organization that is committed to seeing Black women and girls liberated from emotional pain, traumas, and racial inequities to maximize their potential and live their wonder out loud.
My intention for the year is to welcome a cohort of individuals who will be provided with the necessary skills and resourcing needed to chart a new path for their family and their community. With your support and commitment, we can be the change we want to see in the world. We are welcoming applicants, donors, and those who would like to provide our organization with technical skills so that we can expand our reach, welcome our cohort, and be the change.
Thoughtfully Yours,
Shanell
